TCL announces pair of branded tablets

TCL, who stepped out from behind the curtain with its own branded smartphones this year, is doing the same for tablets. The Chinese manufacturer this week revealed a pair of tablets at what would have been IFA 2000.

The two tablets, the TABMAX and TABMID, are powered by Android and come in 10-inch and 8-inch screen sizes, respectively.

TCL TABMAX

The TABMAX has a 10.36-inch IPS LCD screen that employs TCL NXTVISION image processing to dial up color saturation and detail. Moreover, it features “intelligent eye protection” to help shield users against blue light and will even warn users if they get too close to the screen.

Running the show are an octa-core MediaTek MT8768T chipset with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and an 8,000mAh battery. A rear 13-megapixel camera can capture 1080p video while the front houses an 8-megapixel camera and dual speakers.

The TCL TABMAX runs €249, or about

TCL announces two Android tablets, new true wireless earbuds, and a smartwatch for seniors

As part of its IFA 2020 announcements, TCL is today launching a slew of new gadgets including a pair of tablets, new true wireless earbuds, and a smartwatch for seniors.

The Android tablets are perhaps the most interesting products of the bunch, as the higher-end model features a 10.36-inch widescreen (2000×1200) display with slim bezels; it even comes with a stylus. The internal specs aren’t going to come anywhere close to something like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7, but the company is positioning the TCL 10 Tab Max as an excellent choice for watching videos or conducting video calls thanks to its dual far-field microphones. It’s set to ship in the fourth quarter for €299 (4G model) and €249 (Wi-Fi only).

There’s also the TCL 10 Tab Mid for even less money, though you’ll have to put up with chunkier bezels around its 8-inch screen. The 10 Tab Mid

Move over, smartphones: IFA 2020 this year was all about cheap Android tablets

Annual tech event IFA 2020 has finished, and one strange trend has emerged – only one single smartphone was unveiled, and it’s a cheap Samsung Galaxy A phone. IFA doesn’t always have loads of phones, but a measly single device is still a shocking turnout – or it would be, if another gadget hadn’t taken phones’ place.

It seems 2020 is the year of the cheap Android tablet, as five different slates were announced – that’s not a huge number, but given it’s a narrow market segment dominated by Amazon with its Fire devices, normally few companies bring out cheap Android tablets.

The new tablets launched at IFA are the TCL 10 Tab Max and TCL 10 Tab Mid, the Honor Tab 6 and Honor Tab X6, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7. That’s a high tablet-to-smartphone ratio compared to most years when tablets are rare.

So what are these

Fund raising to purchase tablets for Aeta community

The Peace Kamp, the Bangketa Eskwela Foundation, and other non-government organizations have been collecting funds since early September to buy 150 tablets for the Aeta community in Porac, Pampanga.

According to Nico Waje’s report on “Stand for Truth,” the objective of the groups is to ensure that no Aeta will be left behind as the country transitions to blended learning amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Hindi nating papayagan na sila ay maging beggars on their own land. Dapat kung ano’ng opportunities ang available sa mga unat… dapat ‘yung opportunity ay maibigay din natin sa kanila,” Peace Kamp founder  Samuel Sagun said.

The Peace Kamp also set up a learning center where online classes may be held for the children. It is the only place in the area with a strong internet connection.

KOBE — The Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education has decided to basically require students entering prefectural high schools including special needs schools to buy their own tablet devices for their studies from the 2022 academic year.

The move comes as a measure to continue online classes in high school, after such instruction methods spread among compulsory education in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Though elementary and junior high school children will be allowed access to tablets during fiscal 2020 through government subsidies and other measures, the state has not indicated any policy or monetary aid for such devices for high school students. As one tablet can cost tens of thousands of yen, it is up to each school to decide if

Compact, Lightweight Tablets for Reading, Surfing and Streaming

Bigger isn’t always better. Sometimes smaller is just what we need, and tablets usually get size just right. At the miniature end, a 7″ or 8″ one will be easier on your eyes than a smartphone, and even a larger 10-incher will be far more portable than a laptop and it won’t require opening and closing. The most important question to ask is what you’ll be using it to do. If you’re mostly looking to casually browse the internet or stream music, you’ll have different needs than someone who will be using a tablet to read books and/or watch movies. Where you’ll be using it and your preferred operating system will also influence your decision. Now get ready to choose wisely.
