Aerion Supersonic Selects PPG to Support Development of New AS2 Supersonic Business Jet

Supersonic aircraft company, Aerion, the leader in supersonic technology, announced it has selected PPG, to provide the flight deck windshields and cabin window transparencies for the AS2 supersonic business jet.

A leading manufacturer of original equipment and replacement aircraft transparencies as well as paints, coatings and specialty materials, PPG has collaborated on the AS2 program since 2019. The company joins Aerion’s growing team of globally-renowned technical partners, as progress on the AS2’s development gathers pace ahead of manufacturing commencing in 2023 at Aerion Park. PPG brings more than 90 years of experience in design, certification and serialized production of advanced transparencies to aircraft OEMs and to the development of the AS2.

New Apple ‘iPhone 12’ to offer 5G speeds U.S. networks can’t deliver

(Reuters) – 5G will finally get its U.S. closeup with the expected debut of Apple Inc’s next iPhone on Tuesday. But the blazing speeds promised will not materialize for most people.

The device, dubbed the iPhone 12 by analysts, can tap into 5G, or fifth generation wireless technology, that theoretically operates as much as 10 to 20 times faster than current 4G wireless networks.

Using the next iPhone or any 5G enabled device on today’s network, however, will be “like having a Ferrari … but using it in your local village and you can’t drive to up to 200 miles per hour, simply because the roads cannot maintain those speeds,” explained Boris Metodiev, associate director of research firm Strategy Analytics.

Ultraviolet Lamp Said to Kill COVID, Leave People Unharmed

The Japanese company Ushio says that it will sell the Care 222 UV lamp to medical facilities first for about $2,800 a piece. The company also foresees the lamps being used on buses, trains, elevators, and offices.

As reported in Infection Control Today® recently, ultraviolet (UV) light holds great potential as a disinfectant in general, and as a way to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in particular. However, it can be tricky to use. Well, a Japanese company called Ushio thinks it might have found a way around one of the problems with UV disinfection. The company says it has developed a UV lamp that disinfects rooms even when there are people present. The product, called the Care 222 UV lamp, emits a UV wavelength of 220 nanometers. The company developed the lamp with the help of scientists at Columbia University.
