Qualcomm preps edge AI offering

Almost 18 months on from the initial announcement of the Cloud AI 100 AI accelerator, Qualcomm has released a few further details of the solution form factors this chip will be available in, and a few performance figures for those cards. The mobile silicon giant revealed that Cloud AI 100 final silicon is in production and will ship in the first half of 2021.

The Cloud AI 100 was launched almost 18 months ago in April 2019. While Qualcomm dominates the smartphone processor market with its Snapdragon line, Qualcomm’s offerings for servers had previously not taken off — its Arm-based Centriq line was pulled in 2018 just a year after launch. The mobile silicon maker therefore sees the Cloud AI 100 as a way into the edge server market.

Photronics: This Small-Cap Could Rip (NASDAQ:PLAB)

Thesis

Photronics (PLAB) is an under the radar value opportunity. The company’s share price has been stagnant for five years, even as the quality of its business improved markedly. Photronics has quietly invested over $320M into two new Chinese production facilities for the production of IC and FPD photomasks, which will generate significant sales and cash flow growth in the coming years. The company was able to complete these investments over the past five years without leveraging up the balance sheet, which positions the company’s shares for solid price appreciation.

New Blink Indoor and Outdoor cameras promise up to four-year battery life

Amazon has unveiled its new wireless cameras, the Blink Indoor and Blink Outdoor, promising up to four-years battery life from a single set of AA batteries, which will largely make charging and monitoring wireless cameras a thing of the past.

Amazon has updated the design of the new cameras from the existing Blink XT2, with a sleeker, more streamlined approach. Both cameras look very similar, although the outdoor model has additional weatherproofing to let it sit outside.

As with previous models, the new Blink cameras are powered by two AA batteries, which Amazon says will last for two years. However, there’s a new battery expansion pack (£29.99), which will let you install four AA batteries, extending battery life to four years. If the system holds up, then it means that the hassle of charging and managing outdoor cameras has largely gone.

Tesla’s Elon Musk promises new generation of electric car …

(Adds detail on battery production)

By Tina Bellon

Sept 22 (Reuters) – Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk described a new generation of electric vehicle batteries that will be more powerful, longer lasting and half as expensive than the company’s current cells at Tesla’s “Battery Day” on Tuesday.

Tesla’s new larger cylindrical cells, called 4680, will provide five times more energy, six times more power and 16% greater driving range, Musk said.

“We do not have an affordable car. That’s something we will have in the future. But we’ve got to get the cost of batteries down,” Musk said.

Musk described planned improvements including changes to electrode materials, as well as improved cell design, production processes and integration into vehicles.

Tesla will produce the new battery cells initially on a new assembly line near its vehicle plant in Fremont, California, with planned output reaching 10 gigawatt hours a year by the

Facebook Set To Restrict Content If Election Day Descends Into Chaos Or Violence
