But to fully take advantage of the iPad, you need to invest in the right accessories.

Free laptops, school supplies handed out in Englewood

Free laptops and school supplies were handed out in Englewood Thursday to help bridge the digital divide for Chicago Public Schools students who are weeks away from beginning what will be a largely remote learning experience.

Sharon Baker was among the first in line to receive the free laptop computer and other school supplies for her 16-year-old granddaughter. She said the event was critical in assuring her granddaughter doesn’t fall behind in her education.

“The way that the world is now it is the best thing for her education, and this will make her capable of doing her online homework,” Baker said. Remote learning, “is different than what we are used too, and before, she didn’t have a laptop to use. So this is a huge help for us.”

Baker was one of 100 people winning a free laptop in a raffle from Comp-U-Dopt, a nationwide non-profit organization helping underserved

The changing face of automotive software

The automotive electronics are on their way to become software-defined systems.

Looking back on the last five decades, the car has been the most complex product in volume production when all the mechanical, electromechanical and electronics systems are included. Electronics systems have augmented and/or replaced mechanical and electromechanical systems during this time frame, and much more is on the way.

This means that the car’s electronics systems will sooner or later be the most complex electronics in volume production and may already have reached this distinction. Yes, airplanes may have more parts complexity and supercomputers may have more electronics complexity, but they are not produced in tens of million units per year.

The automotive electronics have rapidly increased the software content in all cars—some more than others. There are many articles that claim that a state-of-the art car has over 100 million lines of software code. I have not seen

Filmaniacs: ‘Movies can be made outside of Hollywood’ | Movies

Belt’s cast and film crew include many of his film school contacts, all of whom have their specialties both in front of and behind the camera.  Many of the background actors helped out behind the scenes with sound, cameras, lighting, assistant directing and set dressing.

Having done stage work in high school and college, I understood that a lot of work goes into putting a production.  And while I have been to tapings of TV shows, I’ve never personally worked on a film set.  The experience was amazing but I was unprepared for how many different angles might be involved in filming just a single scene.

Just filming an action scene with a pair of SUVs racing into a target location required nearly two hours of staging, setting marks, as well as prepping the camera with different lenses and angles.  It’s so much more than actors learning their lines and

Pandemic options if an appliance breaks ::

The pandemic has made everything more difficult. Even before COVID-19, it was a pain when an appliance broke.

But now – with delays in delivery times, financial and economic strain and anxiety over social distancing – a broken appliance is more stressful than ever.

Especially during the pandemic and upcoming flu season, what’s the best way to deal with a broken appliance? Should you shop for a new one online, from the safety of your home, but face potential delays in delivery? Should you venture into a store to purchase a replacement, or should you risk having a stranger enter your home to repair the appliance?

Melissa Collins faced this exact struggle when her refrigerator broke.

For a while, she used a mini-fridge to get by, but the lack of storage meant extra trips to the grocery store.

The importance of cloud communications to business continuity and a strategic future

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted a lack of business continuity planning across enterprises. Recent research shows 51 per cent of organisations globally did not have a business continuity plan in place to handle emergencies and disasters at the time when COVID-19 first affected operations.

In Australia, a federal government report found the three most commonly-reported impacts of COVID-19 from businesses were a lower demand for goods and services (67 per cent), cash flow issues (37 per cent), and having to change business practices (33 per cent).

Remote work is a key solution that has allowed some organisations to continue operating after lockdowns and distancing requirements came into effect. When COVID-19 first struck, 10-20 per cent of Australian workers had the option to do at least some of their work remotely, according to a report from The Australia Institute. However, it found “about 30 per cent of the Australian workforce could
